Taking
a dog out walking can be fun - it can also be very frustrating. This was our
first steps out with Gwen - a very new Border Collie. As Gwen grows so will the
trips that she makes and brings back so that you can stay
in your armchair!
Three
Cliffs Bay was recently voted No 2 in Britain's Favourite View on ITV. Not bad
for little Gower championed by singer Katherine Jenkins up against the Lake
District and Coronation Street star Sally Whittaker
For
walkers this is a great walk for an afternoon. It starts at the National Trust
car park at Southgate near Pennard Stores (great for coffee on your return and
there's a loo next door before you start out!). You can take dogs at
anytime of the year. The
route we took followed the cliff path until it dropped into the dry sand dune
valley leading to Pobbles Bay. Access from here to Three Cliffs via the beach is
only possible when the tide has gone out a little. The return route is through
the arch at Three Cliffs, along the river bank until you reach the path which
rises to the clifftop at the edge of the golf course. If you choose to go as far
as Pennard Castle the return is across the golf course or you can skirt the golf
course and return to Southgate past Shirecombe House and Bendrick Drive.
The
walk is about three miles (5km) long and would take between 2 and 3 hours at a
leisurely pace. Take a look at the map
