Bushcraft at
Clyne - 20 years on

Want to see more?
There
is a tradition of bushcraft and survival (do you know the difference?) at Clyne Farm
which goes back a long way. In fact, all the way to when Clyne Farm opened as an activity centre in 1989.
Our
very first course – for a group of Post Office trainees from Norwich -
featured what became known as The Gower Challenge – an 8 mile hike
around the beautiful South Gower coast ending up at a secluded campsite.
Many, even today, didn’t realise that the campsite was only 200 yards
from the main farm complex!
Overnight
shelter soon became a plastic sheet or hurriedly made shelter and food
for an evening meal had to be bought en route.
Our
Big Bushcraft Weekend follows a similar pattern but is geared towards
learning bushcraft techniques on site. Many of our instructors have
worked at Clyne Farm for much of that period so know Gower and our small
part very well.
It
is a perfect programme for school and youth groups, stag and hen groups
and individuals who want to learn how to live off the land and in the
process find out a lot about themselves and their fellow participants.
We
are only three miles from the bustling city of Swansea and the village
of Mumbles but when you get into our woods you would think that you are
a million miles from anywhere.
Our
standard programme gives you a gentle lead in with a night under canvas,
a hearty cooked breakfast before you spend part of the next day building
your own shelter and cooking your own food over an open fire (that’s,
of course, if you succeed in lighting the fire – Stone Age style!)
