Flapper
the six foot chicken, at Clyne Farm Centre has had to cope with a bumper
entry of over 130 for the competition to name the new chicks born just
before Easter.
Flapper comes out on special
occasions such as school group visits or special birthday
parties in the Spring.
The
competition to name the rare breed Cuckoo Marran and Cream Legbar chicks
captured the imagination of children visiting the Centre and also on the
Centre’s website. We have
three grey ones which are the Cuckoo
Marran which lay lovely dark brown eggs and a brown one is a Cream
Legbar which has pale blue eggs.
Flapper’s
choice for the Cream Legbar chick was Speckles entered by 10 year
old Erin Morris of Penmaen while the names Pecker, Flappy
and Black Jack were thought up by Faith Jones of London, Amelia
Reynolds of Brynhyfryd and Joe Gumbie of Brighton
respectively.
Admin
assistant Gemma Mason who helped Flapper sort the entries said “We
were overwhelmed by the response and the continued interest in the
chicks even though they are now growing rapidly.”
All
winners will received a voucher for use in the Clyne Farm stables.
